Black Hills Energy is located at the southwest corner of Catron Boulevard and Highway 16. Based in Rapid City, SD, Black Hills Energy provides gas and electric energy to customers across eight states. The corporation also generates wholesale electricity and produces natural gas, oil and coal. Black Hills Energy's new facility will consolidate approximately 750 employees, formerly separated across 6 locations, onto one campus. The building is designed to provide flexibility for expansion in the future (potential doubling of size and staff), while maintaining sustainable practices for the best management efficiency.

The Black Hills Energy facility meets the criteria for LEED Gold. A significant pursuit of the sustainable mission was to focus on Energy Efficiency and Performance. Primary sustainable investments were as follows: High Performance Building Envelope, Building Envelope Quality Assurance Plan (BEQAP), Geothermal Well Field 212 wells x 350 feet, Well Field Commissioning and Start Up, Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning, Occupancy Sensors, LED Lighting, HVAC Systems exceeded 40% efficiency over base.
